How can I put up my speed bag platform?

April 292010

Posted in speed bag | 2 Comments »

I am thinking about buying this speed bag platform.

http://www.ringside.com/detail.aspx?ID=25645

I want to put it up onto a concrete wall. What will I need to do this? How will I be able to make sure the platform is nice and sturdy up there? Any help or tips would be appreciated.

I saw the setup your looking at. Very good quality. It should come with instuctions on how to attach it to concrete walls. I used a concrete drill bit to drill several deep holes in my basement wall. Then after I had it lined up with the platform I used long steel bolts with a hex end that I had dipped in cement. It took awhile but after I screwed them in and made sure it was sturdy I used it right away. Its been up for 7 years so it worked for me. I used the cement to fill in any pockets in the hole and to seal the bolts in. Hope this helps.

What are the best punching bags?

April 292010

Does century make good punching bags. I am handeling the materials for my karate class and right now are item is bags. Which would be better hanging or standing. We can spend up to $400 will that be enough to buy to pads?

I would say a hanging bag because, you can really get a good punch or power kick off by pushing the bag one way and meeting it in the middle with your kick good POWER kick. But yea, a hanging bag is best. Brand…..All are made good but I would say Everlast for punching the heavy bag but for punching and kicking you will want to look into a Thai style heavy bag look into a brand called TWINS…..very VERY good stuff…..Good Luck :)

How to fight Australian the reserve bank and interest rates?

How do you fight a banking regime like the reserve bank and other banking instutions that do nothing but take ?Do you think that a national vote against the politically elected governor of the reserve bank will help ?I think it could help everyone with a mortgage in australian ?The vote is stronger than the government and the interest rate can allow australian citizens money in there pockets and what do you think ?I think australia needs new public speakers to get the message to the not so educated and working class that feed the business , commom wealth and states of australia ?Do you think the ceasars of this period in time need to be shaken from there tall throwns?

i agree – my mortgage rate has risen 4 times this year .. im dying of debt!!

but i also remember under the Labor gvrnt when the rates used to be 19% and they never came down

wasnt until Howard came onboard that we saw a lot of changes in this country.

I never used to like Howard .. but can see his points .. although he needs to do something about these interest rises as they are predicting yet another rise early 07

we’re all going to go broke.

im sick of the Reserve Bank and its stupid reasons for the increases..
people are already paying HIGH petrol, HIGH tax, HIGH Rates .. what else is next???

*sigh* – that Governor of the reserve bank needs to P I S S off and YES, they need to bring in a vote for someone new, who will represent the little people.

GOOD Q!! thumbs up!

Does anyone else think its to slow?

It’s manually operated – the harder & faster you hit it, the faster it will move!

Is there a good way to keep the padding in my Heavy punching bag from settling to the bottom?

April 292010

I have a heavy bag and I was wondering if anybody had a good way to keep the padding inside from settling and packing in the bottom because most of the punches i throw hit the upper half of the bag. I don’t have anymore room to hang it higher to hit the bottom so either i need a way to keep the stuffing in the top or a way to convert my bag so that i can hang it from both ends…either way. It’s a 100 lbs Everlast Nevatear bag.

~Check out sporting goods stores. Some sell adapter kits so that you can convert the bag so that it can hang from either side. In the meantime, take it down and lay it on a firm surface (hardwood or cement floor is best), and roll it back and forth starting with the end that the padding has settled. Use kneading motions while you roll it but don’t try to punch it down. You’re just trying to loosen it. Then lift it off the floor and lean it against a wall or something to keep it vertical. Let it rest like that for several hours or overnght. You may have to do this four or five times in order to reshape it.

Also, keep your bag away from sunlight and direct heat. The padding stays in shape better in a cool environment.

What’s the difference between a roundhouse and a sidekick in kickboxing?

April 292010

I recently bought a DVD called Fat-Burning Kickboxing Workout for Dummies, and when they do the ten step tutorial, the instructor breaks down each key move. I cannot tell the difference between the sidekick and the roundhouse. I watched her do both closely and carefully and they seem to be exactly the same. What am I missing?

My martial art may teach a different concept behind it, but here is what I know:
A Roundhouse kick is done in a whipping/snapping/swinging (Depending on your interpretation or Martial Art :p) motion. You lift your leg, turn your body with your hips (With your leg pointed in opposing kicking direction [Right leg up, your leg is flexed to the side, and is pointing in the left direction]).
In some styles, the lifting motion (Sometimes known as a "Chamber) of both the side kick and roundhouse kick are the same, which is where I think may be where you are getting confused.
But anyways…
The Side Kick
Now when you do a side kick, lift your knee up (As I said), turn your hips and body to the side (Do not snap your leg out like in the roundhouse), and instead of whipping your leg into what would be your opponent, you do a straight pushing motion. When you’ve turned 90 degree away from your opponent, you are pushing (And with later practice it becomes more of a thrust) out.

That’s a roundhouse kick. Notice how the body is turned, and the kick comes from that hip angling.
This is a side kick:

Do you see the difference? In one, you face your foot towards your opponent, and in the other you are pushing them away with a straight thrust?

How much did your dog (boxers of special interest) weigh as a puppy, and how much now?

Posted in boxers | 5 Comments »

I just thought it would be a fun survey. My 10wk old boxer is 15.5lbs, curious how that stacks up to other boxers and other dogs.

My mom got a boxer puppy a few weeks ago she was 7 weeks old and weighed about 5 pounds or less she’s now 10 weeks and about 10 pounds. They grow fast. Last year I got a lab mix he was 20 lbs.at 3 months and now he’s a year old and between 70-80 lbs.

What medical concerns are involved with running with boxer shorts?

I did a long run yesterday with boxers (I typically run with boxer briefs and I’m fine). After I finshed the run, chafing took over and the tip of my penis had bled a little. Now it hurts at the end of urination. Wondering if this will go away soon? And how to remedy this?

Please tell me it was not tight boxers! Ok, I really recommend you put band aid on it, I know it might not be that practical, but it does help healing it much faster, since it will prevent all friction and avoid water for a while too. Next time you wanna run with boxers, just put band aid on the tip of your penis, I do that for my nipples, since I get the Runner Nipple thing. Good luck
