How do you Pottytraining a 6 week old boxer mix?

July 152010

I just brought home a 6 week old boxer mix. We got him from the town shelter. They said he was a stray. My question is how can I pottytrain him so he doesn’t keep crapping in the house?

Routine is the most important aspect of training. From the beginning, feed 4 times per day, at the same times, and put the bowl up in 5 minutes, or when finished.

A puppy will need to go just minutes after eating, so whisk him outside, and stay with him until he ‘goes’..Give him lots of praise when he does his job, play a few minutes, and come back in..

If you can spread down a bag of sand, from a garden center, it will give him a good place to go, so you can kind of aim him there, and not just all over your yard..

He should only need to go poop after eating, and perhaps at bedtime..

However, he will need water down at all times, and need to pee frequently..so, outside every other hour for that..and keep a close eye on him..He will need to go during active play, and every time he wakes from a nap..If you watch him, you will see him acting restless, and sniffing the floor, etc when he needs to go..at first, peeing may be just a matter of pausing, and uh-oh, there it is..He won’t even be aware…So its important to never scold him for peeing…this is what makes traumatized pups that refuse to pee outside, or try to hide it in the house..as they get scolded for it, and it becomes a traumatic event..
Keep the product, Petastic, on hand, for instant cleaning of pee spots…or ask your pet supply which enzyme cleaner they recommend..

Puppies physiology only allows them to hold pee for about 1 hour per month of age…so expecting any more is unrealistic..a good reason for a playpen or crate at night.. He may hold it through the night, but is likely to need to pee at least once during the night..You can remove the water a couple of hours before bedtime..

By following a routine, and being ever watchful for the first few days, you can have him petty well trained in just a couple of weeks..or less

I house-train all of my pups before they ever leave my home, and I do it an entire litter at a time..it normally takes about 4-5 days, with very few accidents, before they are asking to be let out..
If you hang a little bell on the door, or a desk bell on the floor, and show him you are ringing the bell each time you take him out, he is likely to begin ringing the bell when he needs to go..Just be very vigilant, and yet stay relaxed..an accident doesn’t mean failure..
Remember, it takes forever to potty train a human baby, and it is so nice that puppies can learn it so much faster, but they are still allowed to be babies, and don’t deserve to be stressed about the training…
If you have important areas to keep clean, just keep him away from those areas until he is a bit older..

I recommend using a soft step-in type harness for the walking and leash training, as it is less frightening and stressful..eventually, as trust is developed, you can switch to a collar..but a soft harness takes the fear away from the beginning…Walking stimulates the bowels to move, more so than just putting the dog out..

How can i become a better boxer using a punch man?

July 62010

I have a punch man at home and i want to train to become a good boxer. I’m not talking professional or nothing like that, just want to be able to defend myself. I usually just hit the punch man until i get tired, but i am pretty sure this is useless.

What sort of things can i practice, i.e. jab, combos, stance, etc. What can i do that boxers do when they train? How would a boxer train on a punch man?

For those of you not sure what a punch man is; it’s a standing punch bag in the shape of a man.

You say "boxing" but then say "self defense"… which is it? Sports are sports, meaning there are rules involved. For instance, I will bite whatever gets near my mouth (not joking). The art of a good punch is generated from the legs first. Do not JUMP litterally, but have a little crouch and lunge up into the shot. With your midsection twist and use the shoulders to twist also. Practice like that a while, you will find, with your fist cocked, you could almost KO someone with no arm extention or movement at all. Once you feel like you have it down well enough then start hitting that thing with arm movements this time in combination with the lunge/twist. Now the advantage of that dummy is if is proportioned like a man so you can train on angles. Hit the jaw to snap the head, the temple shots are very painful, that can hurt for over a week, up angle shot to the nose, throat shots, and always the gut shot. Those are the most crippling face to face shots and will win you a fight fast. Keep this in mind too, if I am going to hit your nose, I actually aim for the back of your head… your nose is only in the way. If I hit your left jaw side, I am aiming for the right side, if I upper cut in your guts, I want my fist to rip through your mouth… you get the idea. That little thought will make your punches alot more powerful. DO NOT JAB IN A STREET FIGHT!!! You’ll just get rushed and then it is MMA style. Crush their spirits in the first minute and they will quit. Smash a nose, break teeth, draw blood… most people will back down like a coward. Practice you angles, work on "explosive" power, And try to learn 3 to 5 puch combos. If your first shot stuns them, they are open for SEVERAL more. But be nice, when you learn, ONLY use it in defense, never pick fights because it’ll hurt people and you will become what you want to defend yourself against… a bully. Plus, bullies always get what they have coming. Good luck :)

To the 2nd answerer, yeah, keep one hand to protect the face, and the shoulder of the punching arm to protect your face too… I hope you have 4 arms because someone need to watch the gut shot. Not looking to block the body is a HUGE mistake!!! He never fought a day in his life, lol.

My boxer dog keep messing around with my home phone?

July 42010

Posted in boxer | 2 Comments »

My boxer dog keep messing around with my home phone. What can I do to make him stop? He doesnt touch anything else but the phone and my ringer is off.

Even with the ringer off, the dog may find that when he presses the buttons, it makes noise! I’ve known dogs that have actually called someone just by stepping on the phone.

If you are home when he starts towards the phone, a good firm "no", and refocus his attention on one of his own toys or on you. Each time he even starts towards the phone, refocus him. You are creating a barrier that he will learn to respect.

If you are not home, then the dog should be confined either to a crate or a room where he cannot get into trouble.

There are also commercial products intended to keep dogs away from things, some by scent, others by taste. These can be purchased from a local pet supplies store, and can be sprayed on and around the phone. A couple of cautions here – - – some dogs like the scent or taste of these products, so it might cause the dog to be more interested in the phone. Also, since I assume this is a phone that you use, it would need to be wiped down each time you want to use it or you could pick up the scent and/or taste of the product on yourself.

What are the advantages in wearing a Boxer rather than a normal underwear for a man ?

July 12010

Posted in boxer | 9 Comments »

What are the advantages of wearing a boxer for a man ? .Its a stupid question but answer anyway..

Boxers will allow the scrotum to be further away from the body wall thus allowing the scrotum to do its job. The job is to make sure the testes can be slightly cooler than the body for optimum sperm production. So boxers may increase sperm count.
