Let’s hear the 5 most disgraceful acts Floyd Mayweather, jr. did in the ring to earn himself his terrible public image. Plus, let’s list the 5 most disgraceful actions he’s done out of the ring to earn all the ill-will. This forum is loaded with many, many folks with anti-Floyd sentiments. Let’s hear the reasons why.
And to paraphrase for the less verbose: Why you be hatin’ on Floyd?
Arrogance is never looked upon favorably, and Floyd was about as arrogant as anyone in history, so that was strike one.
As for the sombrero, the fact that Floyd wore it backwards pissed off just about every Mexican who realized the insult, bigotry, like arrogance is also frowned upon by most people, so that was strike two.
The final straw was that Floyd somehow got a 147 lb. title without actually fighting any of the Welterweight contenders, nobody really considered DeLa Hoya the equal to people like Clottey, Cotto, Margarito or even a few of the lesser know welterweights. Floyd should have fought a few people like Mosley or Clottey before he got a title shot. The political favoritism of the powers that be was the third strike against Mayweather.
Fourth was Floyd’s and his family’s questionable treatment of the weaker sex, the public record speaks for itself on that one. The whole thug mentality is a total turn off to all but the most base in society. Gangster’s may be a reality, but nobody enjoys vexatious people.
Fifth was the stupidity surrounding the whole money thing, it was childish and immature not to mention ghetto, it made Floyd a laughing stock. Few people respect objects of ridicule even if they are unbeaten in the ring.
That said, Floyd was still one of the dominate boxers of his era, and almost flawless below 147 and even with those negatives, I never really considered Floyd a jerk…until this question made me think about it. He was no Alexis Arquello or Manny Pacquiao that’s for sure.
