What is something cheap and heavy I can use to hold down a punching bag stand?

I have a heavy bag stand that moves all around when you are using it. It has places to put weight plates but they are just too expensive to use just to hold down the stand. What is the cheapest heaviest thing that I can easily buy to hold it down? my best guess is sand bags. Is there anything better?

My stand has holes drilled along the base that lets you bolt it to the floor. I’ll never do that, but it remains a possibility.

How can I relieve elbow pain from hitting a heavy bag?

Hi All,
I recently started kickboxing and hurt my elbow punching the heavy bag. Well it’s been hurting for about a week and I don’t know what to do about it. Is it tennis elbow? And what should I do? Sometimes I can barely straighten it without pain. There is no swelling. I do find that taking an Epson Salt bath tends to help. Should I see a doctor?

Ibuprofin, 3 pills, 3 times a day is my cure-all for aches. Ice to dull the pain, heat to increase bloodflow and speed healing along. Don’t ever fully extend your arm when working on the bag. Also, don’t ever go all out when you wail on a heavy bag, no more than 75% of your full strength or you’re asking for trouble.

How high should I hang my heavy bag?

June 232010

I’m prepared to hang a heavy bag in my basement but had a question. How high should I hang the bag? I get a different answer from everyone I ask. I believe that the center of gravity of the bag should be close to where my punches should be landing. Others have told me to have the top of the bag just above the height of my head. Anyone?

Depending on your own height, between 2 to 4 feet off the ground although as a general rule, high enough so that from holding your arm straight out, your punch will land squarely in the middle. That way its easier for someone to hold it when you are unloading on it.

When hitting the heavy bag, how do you know you are snapping your punches?

June 192010

Posted in heavy bag | 2 Comments »

When I hit the heavy bag, I would think that my punches are powerful, but actually they are not. I realize I am justing quickly pushing the bag. The bag moves, but the punches don’t hurt. How can I know if my punches are snappy and stingy.

I heard if I snap my punches on a bag that is filled with loose sand, it won’t move or sway, but will stay in place and just shudder.

How would I know if I’m punching correctly on a bag filled with cloth, cotton stuffing?

The heavy bag is not supposed to move around a whole lot…thats why its heavy. A lot of people have others hold the bag still for them so it reduces movement even more….and a heavy bag filled with cloth or cotton is not a heavy bag.

Whats the cheapest way to hang a heavy bag from a wall?

June 172010

Posted in heavy bag | 1 Comment »

I’ve been looking at some wall mounts for a heavy bag and they start at 60 dollars.
Is there a cheaper and decently effective product to hang heavy bags (70-100lb) from a wall. because my home gym is outdoors and around no roofs for hangers.
or even a do it yourself way to wouldn’t cost so much?
Dont have any trees around. If it matters i do have a wooden fence.

Nah man, nothing I can think of. If the gym is outside you can probably hang it on a tree branch with somtime of rubber wire. That would be a helluvalot cheaper
