How to make an homemade punching bag?

June 262010

I’m getting bored these days at home, and I always feel like my punches don’t affect anyone lately. So, I was wondering how to make an punching bag at home – and yes I’ve looked at the previous questions asking the same thing but I didn’t really find anything. I’m low on money so I can’t really go buy one myself. I was wondering what materials will I need? I have potato sacks, and different types of bags but I’m not quite sure what to stuff the bags with. Any help will be appreciated.

An old military duffel bag stuffed with rags and plenty of newspaper will do. But why bother when inexpensive punching bags can be found at many stores or on the internet. Make sure you pick up some bag gloves as well.

is it safe to punch a punching bag everyday?

June 232010

It’s been about a week punching kneeing and elbowing this punching bag. No pains, no nothing I actually feel better leaving the gym. Are there any dangers to doing this everyday? If there are dangers how do I reduce the chances of running into them besides the obvious don’t punch the bag every day rest 24 hour and stuff.

Everyday, can be a bit excessive. While it feels great and can help greatly in the relief of stress, there are negative sides to hitting the bag everyday.

Hitting the bag every day may not necessarily show up in the short term with problems, but they will show up eventually. The thing you need to remember is you are shocking your body greatly each time you strike the bag. The force is absorbed through your bones, ligaments, and cartilage. While the impact can actually be beneficial to your bones in keeping their density up, it is very bad on your cartilage, and a strain on your ligaments.

The punching bag has the same effect as running on concrete. The constant impacting wears down your cartilage, something not rebuilt by the body. There are boxers who develop hand, wrist, and shoulder problems often enough from their sport and the constant pounding of fists. Case in point: Floyd "Money" Mayweather; he has severe hand problems to the point of having to get a massage everyday on his hands and wrists.

PPR, Punch Punch Revolution = DDR + Punching Bag. :)

I wanted to work my upper body and thought this would be a fun, interesting project that could be used to generate student interest in neat, easily reproducible tech projects. More about me and my other projects at www.eugenechen.ca ; similar to Guitar Hero, I think this can reach a new market and reach out to existing, health-conscious, kick-boxing curious or loving consumers.

How can I lesson the eccho in my hallway from my punching bag being hit?

June 192010

I have a thick striking Matt for punching & kicking but it’s the kind that attaches to the wall. On the other side of the wall is a narrow hallway. Every time I strike the bag the sound ecchos through the hallway making it sound 20 times louder than it is in reality. I’m afraid it’s going to disturb my neighbor. If I nail a rug to the other side of the wall will that stop the eccho?

You got it. Instead of a rug why not make it a nice place to hang a thick gym floor pad. You can throw the pad on the floor for certain types of exercises.

A punching bag in a second story apartment, Would it make too much noise?

June 172010

Im planning on buying a 100 lbs punching bag and hanging it from a door frame pullup bar, and replacing the chain with rope. Will this be too noisy?

It’s too bad that you can’t utilize part of the basement of your apartment complex, because I don’t believe, IMO that you’ll be happy with your planned set-up. First of all, a doorway is too narrow ans secondly, the bag is sure to hit the sides of the door frame and make just enough noise to disturb your neighbors. They’ll probably hear the sound of leather hitting leather too, that’s if the bar holds and doesn’t fall because of the 100 pound wight swinging. I’d make sure I had an alternative place if this first choice doesn’t work. good luck.
