July 152010
floyd mayweather is my favorite boxer next to manny pacquiao. i like mayweathers defense though it is amazing. how can i learn it?
Mayweather boxes uses the Philly Shell for defense while dancing around and using his hand speed to jab his opponents to death and outbox them. Start working on your hand speed through shadow boxing in addition to other boxing training and learn the Philly Shell defense. Here is an instructional video on how to do it. Remember it took Mayweather years to learn this so it will take you years as well. Practice using it during sparring sessions every now and then to see how you are coming along.

watch plenty of his fights and watch what he is doing..
for example what he does with the opponents jab parrying w his right hand..
the way he steps in and out but is still in the pocket.
you have to really be watching and studying his tapes to see what it is he is actually doing to see how to do it..
i have watched the mayweather mosley fight about 7 times and i have adapted as much as i can from his style.. that shoulder first defense is excellent for when your on the inside if you can get your arms on the inside and your opponents on the outside, there is no way for them to punch.. your right arm has there left in check and the left you use your forearm and its extremely difficult to come over the top.. and its not clinching either, its more like a clinch guard.. plus when you release on the break your in great position to throw a right hand or left hook..
i could go on and on…. watch some you tube fights of mayweathers biggest fights and watch how he handles pressure..
i also watch pac as well, i like his in and out combos.. i dont fight like that im more reserved but it helps for when you got someone hurt and are ready to finish them..
i take a bit from both..

it would be very difficult to learn the shoulder roll. he and james toney (at his peak) were two of the best at it, but i tend to believe a lot of it is natural. shane mosley was trying to emulate floyd’s style while training, thinking he could fight like that and he was destroyed! besides, it’s best to just be yourself. if there are a few things you can use that other fighters have perfected and work for you, that’s fine. i used to sometimes drop my left a little low ala ray leonard and some other fighters, and that was okay while sparring in martial arts, but i got tagged against good boxers in the gym.

Its pretty easy realy, just dodge any opponent who you think is gona give you a hard time by blaming a load of made up bull poop about them and being totally unreasonable. Then when they get old or have a weight disadvantage, capitalise on it . Simples
Only kidding, hes prob my fav technical boxer. I bought his career box set with all his fights and even some amature fights and have studyed them alot, i like his left jab followed by the left hook. I like the de la hoya bout and the marquez bout
